  1. These were Eliotte Friedman's exact words re: Tyler Johnson on 32 Thoughts. Link There's nothing else about connecting Tyler Johnson to the Rangers. Hell, this isn't even Friedge connecting Johnson to the Rangers so much as it is him coming up with an off-the-board idea. Notice how cagey Friedge is in his phrasing for even his standards. Posts like "reading rumors about [x]" aren't verifiable. Let's be better about sourcing information. If you can read about something then you can also share the link to it.
  2. Exactly this. Given the state of the market, it seems like any trade for a center is going to cost an arm and a leg. If you're the Rangers and are going to be forced to pay, you might as well spend extra to get players with years. Drury and his pro scouts need to do their homework to make the best decision here — the best fit is unlikely to be one of the top five guys on Seravalli or whoever's trade board.
  3. Sorry about that folks. Had to shake down a perp. @Keirik knows what I'm talking about. Back to business.
  4. Where'd you go Capt? You were having such an active two hours. Trying to log into Fatfrancesa instead? Or how about Cupalife? We know.
  5. Friedge mentions Henrique twice here. He makes a lot of sense as a lower-cost option especially to round out that checking line with Cuylle and Kakko. Sam Carrick can fill in that 4th line center role that Friedge also mentions that they're in the hunt for. Both are strong centers with jam. Use a separate deal to get an under-the-radar winger like how they acquired Vatrano two years ago. Maybe that's Duclair. Might be someone even more under the radar.
  6. Sorry, I'm a little late here. As has been mentioned, Mackey is on the older side at 27, so the upside is limited, but what you get is a consistent depth defenseman with some grit. He's been one of Hartford's steadiest defenseman this season and is probably the more appropriate fit as the 7D over Jones. I don't want to overrate him but there's even a little more offense to his game than his stats would indicate. Hollowell, Brouillard, and Robertson all get powerplay time while Mackey receives none. He's low maintenance and high character which is exactly what you want out of a depth defenseman.
  7. lol just trying to keep expectations reasonable for both. They're still useful players and more of what the team lacks, they're just not overtly aggressive. They're feistier than what's currently on the roster but a far cry from the actual killers out there.
  8. Othmann profiles more like a Trocheck type. Runs his mouth, makes sneaky plays that aren't worthy of a penalty but are enough to rile the opposition. He's really a rat. His game is physical without the same kind of kaboom you get from Cuylle at this level because of his size and speed. Sykora is somewhere in the Jesper Fast/Tyler Motte archetype. He's relentless but he's also more of a Lady Byng type player in that he's very respectful in his style of attack. He finishes checks without any question of legality and isn't one to engage heavily in extracurriculars.

That’s not the outcome that we were looking for. It's not the result. I don't think that guys didn't show up and play hard. They did, but Vegas capitalized on their chances. We couldn't get them to drop.” — Peter Laviolette on the Rangers loss to Vegas GIF to LOL:
  10. The Rangers have one 2nd round pick and one 3rd round pick remaining over the next three years. Despite the rebuild, the prospect pool is incredibly thin — they're lacking depth at center, defense, and goaltending. They've maintained their 1st round picks but those should be used on selections or trades with significant enough impact. The Rangers don't have the capital to add to a Goodrow deal.
  11. Right. Koskinen started 15/20 games when they won the Gagarin Cup, 15/16 the following playoffs, and then Shesterkin and Hellberg split the crease 10 games each.
  12. Over the Rangers last 10 games goaltending stats are as follows. Igor Shesterkin 4-3-0, .887 SV%, 3.01 GAA, 2.15 GSAA, .829 HDSV% Jonathan Quick 0-2-1, .879 SV%, 3.70 GAA, -2.15 GSAA, .714 HDSV% Quick is going through a personal slump of his own and hasn't done as well with the shoddy defense in front of him. For as bad as Shesterkin has been, Quick is seemingly worse with the same quality of defense. They desperately need to be healthy and get back to having any semblance of structure.
  13. And I’ve said twice that he’s neither at the top of their list nor are they pressed to move him yet. I think they’d be open to discussions if the right deal came along. Sharangovich is a guy I’d rather pay a little more for than some of the rental opportunities out there.
  14. He’s a UFA after next season so they only have so much control. They stand to lose some significant guys in Lindholm, Hanifin, and Tanev. Kylington, who’s working his way back, is also on an expiring deal. If they’re close to a spot they’ll probably just ride them out as self-rentals, but there’s an argument for them taking advantage of what assets they have. Sharangovich might not be amongst their top five guys to sell off, that doesn’t mean he’s not amongst the next group. Given their inability to retain talent headed for UFA I’d imagine they’d at least listen.
  15. Maybe two years or so. I'd like for him to play through his junior season because he needs the time to build up muscle and work on his skating. Not sure if he or the team agree there, but he should be back at BC next year at the very least with a chance for a WJC Gold repeat.

  17. The second power play unit has Jonny Brodzinski and Jimmy Vesey on it. Of course that unit isn't good.
  18. It's all this. Even Dom Luchadorxray at the Atheltic, an analytics purist, has caved to the notion that the Rangers are a model for a successful team because of their sustained success as a special teams and goaltending-propelled team. The question is whether they're the make of a championship-winning team. https://theathletic.com/5134948/2023/12/14/16-stats-rangers-faber-reinhart/ I think depth is by far the biggest hindrance at the moment. Beyond the third line being the equivalent of some AHL first lines, they've still got Wheeler playing on a top line that's beyond his physical capabilities. There's only so much this team can do when two guys above 35 are filling for two guys below 25. Bonino and Wheeler just don't have the legs to be the contributors they're being asked to be.
