  1. I don't feel like going down the rabbit hole, but I also remember it being reported that Fast hadn't heard from the Rangers during that final week before FA. Gorton was notorious for not returning to touch base with players. It could be that he thought they were in a good place because he never reached back out.
  2. This. This. And This. Fast led them to overspending on Goodrow for the same role which priced Buchnevich out.
  3. From about 55 seconds onward Vince asks about Hartford and Laviolette addresses your question exactly. The short answer is yes they do replicate, but it isn't consistent because of personnel and schedule. The 1-3-1 seems more in use than a left-wing lock, but neither are go-tos like in the NHL.
  4. He got five shifts in the 1st, four in the 2nd, and five in the 3rd. No shifts in the final 8 minutes of the game. Edstrom was a 6th rounder in 2019. 6'7" but actually a pretty good skater with some hands. He's playing top six in Hartford.
  5. 50% is max retention. There’s no such thing as 100% retained.
  6. Rangers are back to accruing cap space for the deadline. I guess they wanted a look at what Edstrom could do up close. Probably gives him a little morale boost to know that he's envisioned as a next man up. He's been getting top six minutes in Hartford. Go back and keep doing good work.
  7. They can accrue as long as they're below the ACSL but they're currently not with both Edstrom and Brodzinski up. With one down they'd be able to accrue.
  8. Was at the game. They stunk, but it’s one game so it is what it is. They’ll be better and Fox will do his thing. Loved hearing the ref announce Benson’s cross-checking penalty as two minutes for “pushing.” Thanks for sending your best, NHL.
  9. Gonna say Trouba. Laf and Gus are a bit more obvious because of their production, but Trouba has been super steady so far. By this point last year (19 GP), he was on for 14 GF with 19 GA. This year he's at 15 GF with 9 GA. You don't really notice the same lapses from Trouba or Miller thanks to the system giving them something to fall back on. He also doesn't seem to be chucking clap bombs from the point nearly as much anymore for wasted shots. Aside from the occasional Trouba train passing through, you don't see too much of him which is perfect. If only he didn't cost so much.
  10. Yeah, the option is there if needed. On the PP and at 6 on 5 he's by default lined up at RW just to put him in shooting position. ES has mostly been LW opposite Belzile.
  11. Yeah, I'd much rather wait until the summer 2026 to even really consider McDavid.
  12. Brought to us by the same dude who also questioned whether Adam Fox was worth two 2nd round picks lol.
  13. To get back to Panarin, I don't think there's one particular change you can credit, but he has undoubtedly done a ton of work to rehabilitate himself. Nikita Zadorov mentioned in an interview this summer that Panarin has OCD and there were a number of reports that Panarin became a bit of a hockey shut-in during the offseason. Link It's pretty obvious he's gone over tape because he's not falling into many of the same habits he'd display under Gallant and the latter part of Quinn's tenure. He's shooting with consistency, he's working incredibly hard down low and forcing turnovers, he's backchecking meaningfully, etc. You can also see it by just looking at him but he added extra weight this summer. Link There's something to be said for the chemistry he's developed with Lafreniere and the consistency with which they've played together. It seemed like Panarin at least had a different right wing every few games, and then would always end up with Zibanejad for spurts as well. Laviolette has also put Panarin in situations that work to his benefit — Panarin has a team-high 82.69 Offensive Zone Start % this year compared to 50.77 last year. For comparison, Jimmy Vesey had 52.63 OZS last year and is at a team-low 13.16 this year. There's just a much clearer delineation of roles under Laviolette than under Gallant. Link There's also the fact that Laviolette's system plays into Panarin's strengths. Laviolette's system allows the Rangers to attack with numbers which was often a fault of Gallant's. Panarin isn't left curling to the boards without a trailer or someone he can wrap the puck around the far side to, he actually has options. This Rangers team actually knows how to provide support options because they've practiced it. Panarin has done a ton of work to rejuvenate himself while Laviolette has done everything to help maximize Panarin's usage and contributions.
  14. And that was the second iteration of a trade Panarin thread. There was a trade Panarin thread that started the offseason he signed before he had even played a game as a Ranger.
  15. First off, welcome to the forum. Secondly, given you're new there are likely a number of discussions you haven't been exposed to. One such discussion was a long-running thread musing about trading Panarin. That's not a consensus belief, but one that a few posters considered given his postseason struggles and various other reasons. Thirdly, I'd recommend that you don't come out guns blazing despite not understanding the context of a post. It's a poor way to ingratiate yourself here and we don't really go for calling comments the "dumbest I've ever read."
