Is it just me or did Chad Ruhwedel play a pretty strong game tonight?
He wasn't a sexy pickup, but he plays a pretty steady, quiet game.

True, also if you finish first, it means everyone finishes behind you.
Yup!! Amazing, bro.

I was never good at math, but if you take the best record in hockey and add a win to it, you get...the best record in hockey.

Story of his career lol
He'll sneakily wind up with 400 career goals and we'll be wondering how the fuck that happened.

Points are nice but the bigger take away is how they play against the big boys and they did just fine for the most part.
Yeah, I mean shootouts aren't too indicative of anything. This was a very good road game against a top dog.

Kreider has 12 points in the last 14 games? How? lol

Always great to beat that human piece of waste, Georgiev.

Didn’t convert on second PP but still up 1 with 8:05 left to go in the third is a great place to be right now.
Can I see some shut down hockey down?Nope.

A fucking travesty for the Rangers it didn't work out. As a fan, it was a getting your heart ripped out moment.

Nah Ferraro is a cunt. He actively chooses to focus on what he perceives as missed penalties against the Rangers, and sweeping shitty calls against them under the rug like they didn't happen. All of the time. Every game. You can also tell by his tone of voice. He's a hater for sure, and Keith Jones is/was the same way.
Agreed there, just saying when he has criticized the Rangers, he's not always wrong. lol He and McDonagh together on games is absolutely awful.

Yeah I mean we have to do due diligence and debate correlation vs causation, but since 2008 (that's as far back as we can go) only one team with analytics as bad as the Rangers has won. Only one other team with a sub-50 xGF% has won. That's two teams with bad analytics in the last 16 years. The overwhelming majority of teams with bad analytics don't even make the playoffs.
But hey, you never know. Panarin wasn't supposed to be this good and have a career year at 32 years old either. I just don't blame analysts for taking a look and saying "Hey, wait a minute, the Rangers haven't checked out very well at 5v5, and they got a lot of points from gimmicky 3v3 OT wins (8) that don't come into play in the playoffs". It's probably the most objective, valid analysis that can be drawn from the data. It won't surprise me if they get bounced in the first or second round, and 90% of the fan base is left thinking they choked. I wouldn't see it that way because I don't see them as favorites at all.
I hope they can buck the trend. I just think they'll just need a bunch of extra bounces go their way than a normal path to the Cup.
Yeah, one problem I have is, yeah, they have good players, but they're just too streaky. Panarin was guilty of that, but he's been locked in. Will it carry into the playoffs where teams will be even more hyper focused on him? We don't know. Will Mika stay hot? We don't know? Will we get good Kreider or bad Kreider. There's too much past inconsistencies with our top guys.

I don't think it's anti Rangers at all. These people are paying attention to the entire league, they're not hyper focused on one team the way we are.
Like I said in the other thread, you can disagree with the case they're making, but the case they're making is definitely there. They aren't making the stuff up. They're not out here saying Barzal should be MVP.
That is true. I think a lot of times Rangers fans kind of live in this bubble where any possible slander, justified or not, is taken a bit too far. Like, even if Ray Ferraro is critical of the Rangers, he's usually not wrong. It's possible he doesn't like them personally, but I can't say I've really disagreed with his criticism. It's like the only people that are allowed to criticize them is us. lol

I just didn’t get the hate being spit at them by all angles. Panarin has identical numbers to Pasta, yet one is a Tier 1 MVP candidate while the other is Tier 2.
And then the bullshit about Carolina and the blatant disregard for the Rangers. As if we’re a pushover. We’ve been in 1st place since before fucking Halloween.
I hope we murder Colorado tonight.
Yeah, that part I don't get, considering the Rangers have pretty much owned Carolina for a good 18 years or so. lol

I agree. I’m not disputing that. MacKinnon is going to win. McDavid will be right there. And with the way Tampa is surging, I would have to imagine Kucherov likely will be selection 3. Matthews, too, deserves to be up there with the historic pace he is on.
But if we’re gonna lump players, the way they were last night, and you’re going to throw Pasta into Tier 1, then Panarin needs to be there with them. Their stats are just about identical. You can’t have him there, and then lump Panarin in with Reinhart and Hyman. To me, that’s just anti-NYR bias. And that’s an agenda I hate pushing. But last night, it just seemed to be so much of that.
Definitely ant-Rangers bias in that regard. I can agree on that. But again, their opinions really don't matter if you're even remotely paying attention, which most people are.

Completely agree.
Analytics don't take into account playoff intensity. That's why they play the games and they don't just run a report to see who should win.
Analytics don't take into account playing the same team night after night for 2 weeks, what you learn about that team, and what you learn to hate about that other team.
Analytics don't take into account how many players are playing through more serious injuries than they would during the season.
I think a lot of people use analytics for the wrong reasons. If you see a team or player is bad, then analytics can tell you why. Too often we see people say "they're analytics suck, therefore they suck" yet that player or team is successful on the stats that really matter (box cars).
Nobody goes into a contract negotiation and says they led the league in high danger chances created. They go in and say they had this many assists and this many goals.
Indeed. When it comes to goals and assists, people won't ask 'how?', it'll always be 'how many?'

Florida is 4-5-1 in their last 10, winning only one game in their last six against Philadelphia, losing the other five to play off teams.
They're a paper tiger.
Definitely can be beaten, I just didn't like how the Rangers looked against them overall this season. Of course, playoffs are a different animal. If the Rangers bring it, they can certainly beat them.
I do agree with Ozzy that Tampa Bay can cause a real problem as well. They still have the talent and that winning pedigree.

Sometimes I think with analytics it's paralysis by analysis. Yeah, they can paint a real picture regarding a team in certain situations, but the playoffs is just a different animal entirely. It's more of a crapshoot than most sports postseasons. Plus, in general, a lot of people don't like the Rangers anyway. lol I've often said the only people who really like the Rangers are Rangers fans.

Has anyone seen Keith Tkachuk lately????
Or in however many years????
My man got DAMN FAT!
lol Yeah, I saw him last season, the camera panned to him when he was attending a game. It was probably one his kids were playing in or something. But yeah, I guess we know what he's been doing in retirement.

Given how good the conference (and league in general) is, the President's Trophy and best record would be a great team accomplishment. I'm not a believer in the trophy curse or anything. I'll gladly take the honor.

Hopefully they can take seven out of the nine, six at worse.
I noticed that the Rangers gave actually given up the first goal in seven straight games, and are 6-1 in that span. Pretty damn good considering the competition and just in general.
