  1. I've never been a fan of Dom Luszczyszyn as I'm more of the mindset that analytics are a tool in the box rather than a religion.. Needless to say ol' Dom not a big fan of the off season so far. https://theathletic.com/2753099/2021/08/05/nhl-offseason-by-the-numbers-which-teams-have-improved-the-most-and-least-2/
  2. On the New Ice City podcast, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal speculates that the Rangers might ask the Golden Knights about trading for Ryan Reaves (49:00). Schoen cites the fact that Reaves was a healthy scratch for the last two playoff games for Vegas and the fact that new Rangers’ coach Gerard Gallant was a big proponent of Reaves’ play when he was a coach of the Golden Knights. The Rangers have been open about their desire to add a different element to their lineup, which Ryan Reaves definitely would bring, though he has lost a step from his Vegas days. Reaves is signed for one more season at a cap hit of $1.75 million. https://nhltraderumors.co/2021/07/01/could-the-rangers-trade-for-ryan-reaves/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=could-the-rangers-trade-for-ryan-reaves Sent from my iPhone using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk

  7. Synopsis from NHL.com https://www.nhl.com/news/new-york-rangers-miss-playoffs/c-324337792?tid=277548856 'What went wrong Struggles vs. East's best: The Rangers have had problems against the top four teams who reached the playoffs from the MassMutual East Division, going 10-15-4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Capitals, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, including 2-5-1 against the Islanders and 2-4-2 against the Penguins. They have two games left against the Bruins and one against the Capitals.... Down and out: The Rangers are 6-14-4 in games when they give up the first goal, 5-11-4 when trailing after the first period and 1-14-0 trailing after two. Translation: They've struggled to handle in-game adversity, such as when they give up early goals and have to play from behind.'

  18. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/30797357/wrong-new-york-rangers-get-back-track 'MSG analyst Dave Maloney received a text from his daughter this week: "What is wrong with the Rangers?"....' 'Maloney texted his daughter back: "The expectations got a little beyond where they are reality-wise."' 'Is it the goaltending, or the defense? The simplest place to start with Rangers is their goaltending, which ranks 24th in the league in save percentage (.894) through seven games....According to Weekes, Allaire also is "one of the best in the business" at getting goalies extra practice time to do goalie drills -- which has been challenging due to the condensed schedule. "It's just a very different setup this season," Weekes says. "' '...Defense is the next issue of concern for the Rangers. The blue line was shaky all of last season, and their only offseason fix was trading Marc Staal and replacing him with Jack Johnson (who was bought out by the Penguins).' 'The Rangers have shuffled around their line combinations so often, it sometimes feels like coach David Quinn is treating the regular season like an extended preseason -- which teams weren't afforded in this accelerated season. "It's a little bit of the chicken or the egg. If you're winning, you don't have to change anything," Maloney says. "There's a valid argument to letting things grow a little bit, and develop. [Quinn] is looking for that combination that's going to work, but there just hasn't been enough consistency to stick with a set of lines."'
  19. https://theathletic.com/2291511/2021/01/04/new-york-rangers-2020-21-season-preview/ For those of you behind the paywall - the basic gist of the deep-dive is that the Rangers have as much elite talent as they have detriment, and could pretty much land anywhere because young talent could explode and cover the gap...or not. There was also appropriate hyping of how ridiculously good Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox were and will be.

  21. https://theathletic.com/2260364/2020/12/16/new-york-rangers-expectations-contenders/ A lot of what we already know, but a very interesting read for those of you who subscribe to The Athletic. A few of the more interesting points made include: -Few if any teams have ever had their future 1D, 1G, and 1W on ELCs all at once (referencing Fox, Shesterkin, Lafreniere) -The financial realities of the NHL, the Rangers now-and-future ELCs, and the huge amount of cap coming off next season position the Rangers to flex their financial muscle -With a little good luck, 2021-22 could open the Rangers' contention window
  22. https://theathletic.com/1606480/2020/11/30/nhl-trade-value-rankings/ ADA gets an honorable mention here too. Oddly missing - Brendan Smith and Adam Fox.
