I don’t think resigning Vatrano in any way is related to Buch in any more of a way than to say we have grit elsewhere and don’t need 4-5 different versions of the same thing. Blais is nice but he’s also slightly redundant on a team that’s primary problem boils down to secondary scoring. Buch was a 60 point player. The Rangers couldn’t pay him market value. Vatrano, despite his good tenure here, won’t command Buch money. If he does, you say ah salute and good luck Frankie but if he takes a 2 year contract in a still flat cap world I think you have to really be interested if the dollar is right. I think bringing Vatrano back is slightly more realistic than Copp.

Oh I agree. It should be a priority especially to find out exactly what number he is looking for. If it starts with 6, a ,ore serious discussion needs to be had.

His production sure is a product of Panarin. His 4 years with the islanders he’s a .49 ppg player (one good year of .62). His two years with Edm, he’s a .36 ppg player so that’s his low point in career. First year he joins the Rangers before Panarin arrives he is a .52ppg which lines him right up to who where he was as an Islander. Then we sign Artemi, who he pretty much played with from the jump. .84 .88 .72 Now I understand the next obvious argument is that good chemistry is a great thing and it’s true. I’m just saying that if we commit to Strome, it better be a very friendly deal because Panarin turns 31 in October. If he starts to decline at some point like every other human does sans Kreider right now, we can’t be on the hook for Strome as well if it’s a high cap hit. There are just too many other contracts that will need to be addressed in coming years as well.

They just can’t simply reward him more than 5.5m or so unless it’s a shorter term deal. That’s always possible since I believe Strome himself mentioned he’s never signed a long term deal before. If he’s looking for 6m over 4 then it starts to get dicey. Just a product of numbers. I don’t really care about the Panarin effect because we pay Artemi a heck of a lot of money to have him produce regardless of his bud being the center. Rangers have to look at this very carefully. We are talking about a 50-60 point player that has a symbiotic relationship. He simple cannot be paid as if his production isn’t dependable on Panarin.
