Ok, I’m sorry. I have to sort of call this out. It’s nothing like the Tikkanen trade . Blais is a shell compared to Esa. Tikk was not only a clutch playoff performer, but he was the pinnacle shut down fwd of his era. He isn’t far off from a HOF player especially considering his intangibles as a European in a time where they weren’t sought after in this league.

I hope you’re right but Mika is a much better goal scorer than Barkov is. Ziby had 41 in 57 games while Barkov high is 35 in 82. Last year both had very similar years and everyone and their mother thinks Mika had a down year. I agree with LLTK. Get it down before he pots 60 and we have to pay more.

I wish I could relate lol. I just think when player X negotiates and is using comparable contracts, any good negotiation tactic for a GM when the agent says another player makes an extra million would easily be “well and when they are taxed at rate whatever higher it works out less…..”

Yeah, I've said this before and have had some different opinions on it. I think the tax rate definitely plays a part in where or why a player might remain or sign somewhere. Is it the only reason?? No, but is it a factor? I think so sometimes.

Kreider has been been here for a decade or so. He shouldn't have needed Gallant to say crap. It just cant be him. Plus, as others have said, I odnt want my captain taking weeks off coasting line he does several times per year. On paper he makes the most sense. Then you watch him over a year and see how it makes sense that he never was made captain. Last night was a show. If he wanted to pummel PK he should have. Not grab the guy and square dance with him.

I appreciate the sentiment but you can’t just strip the proverbial cupboard just to get two different top line centers and then try to thinly surround them with spare parts. It just rarely works in the long haul. Plus you’re going to need some of those picks and young talent to either trade later when we are in a position to win or help round out the team while still being affordable.

I mostly am on board with you even though I did say we addressed our toughness problem prior to Reaves and he was overkill. I see it as I think I overstated a bit. His presence on the club helped everyone walk a little taller so I think that’s already been accomplished a bit just with him on the roster too. This is an 82 game season now. Even if he misses time in October, guys do know if they do something dumb he will come, calling next time.

I feel like we have been around this a bunch. I’ll take Zib/Strome at 15m than Eichel at 10 + an unknown with him and an unknown at 2c. I actually don’t have an interest in Eichel. Hell of a player but it’s not 2019. A 2021 Eichel does us no good when he doesn’t play until 2022 and likely resets us a tad the following year losing Zib/Strome and whatever assets thry need to trade to get Eichel in the first place. Also agree on Chytil. I’m not seeing it with him and if it’s mid season where we are doing well and Chytil is 5 goals 9 assists into his year with a few flashes and a 30% faceoff win %, I say start seeing who is interested for a better fit at 3c.

There’s no doubt Reaves brings a little buzz and dare I say some swagger if the rest of the team is firing on all cylinders in other areas. Just for the simple fact that he will keep players honest if someone wants to take a run at any of our guys. I don’t honestly think he is vital or anything though. It’s just one of those things. Hopefully he’s back sooner rather than later.
