  1. Chytil is rfa now so you assume he signs for a 2 year deal or so right? It works much better if he goes 3 years at a reasonable rate and blows up a bit where we luck out on a good rate. I’m not sold on Chytil though. ALF at 6m works amazing if he is who he’s touted to be. That doesn’t buy term though I guess but is a nice bridge. Another idea (and also just spitballing) though would be to look at our teams strengths for the future and see how it’s on the wings and D. We could look to try and get two 2cs instead of a top flight 1c and lesser 2c. If we managed to pull a Lindholm out of Calgary and kept a Strome, it might not be the worst having 1c/2c combined be 6.5/4.85 in Strome/Lindholm instead of 9/3 in Ziby and Chytil when it’s painfully obvious to me that Chytil just isn’t a center. Or if you want the Galant connection, try to get Marchessault? Same good term and money contract at 30 I believe and has been to a cup final so there is the twist of experience too.
  2. Right, the problem with that is they both don’t have that happen until the year after in 24/25.
  3. The thing is trying to predict what the cap ceiling will be for the start of the 23/24 season will be. By that time Kakko, Fox, and Kravtsov will be on their second contracts and ALF will be up for his. If ALF has blossomed by then to a superstar status and we have paid Ziby his money, we are really tight cap wise. Panarin 11.6 Zibanejad 9 (if you assume he comes down slightly) Fox 9 (assuming Makar set the bar and we lock him up long term) Trouba 8 Kreider 6.5 Shesty 4 Goodrow 3.6 Kakko 3.5 (just guessing but it seems realistic if not low to me) Kravtsov 3 Lindgren 3 That’s 61 million on 10 players and that’s without a 2C, ALF in the top 6 if you are assuming Kreider is a third liner, a potential raise for K’Andre, 2 other D, backup goalie, and about 4 of your bottom six. Cap is what, 82 million or so now with a possibility of covid shutting down fans at any time, at best a small bump for the 22/23 season and who knows for 23/24? It’s doable but it’s tight. Very tight. We either have to assume we leap bounds forward and our window is in these next two years or we pray guys don’t develop too fast (Kakko/Kravy) with increased ice time and production to anything elite next season or we have even worse decisions to make. That 8m for Trouba and 6.5 for Kreider are killers on a team with high potential draftees.
  4. Yeah, no negotiation starts with the exact price or term. Both parties give their extreme positions, then try to meet somewhere in the middle. I think we all need to take a pause and relax. Having said that, the specific center position is the most important negotiation(s) to get “team friendly” correct. If we truly truly believe in Kakko, ALF, Shesty, and Kravy, we cannot afford to end up with an anchor on center that eats up too much. Not on a team with Trouba, Panarin, Fox’ inevitable giant bump next year thanks to other GMs, and Kreider. We can’t just assume a Trouba or a Kreider might waive a NTC prior to 24/25.
  5. I won’t flip out just yet since it’s preliminary but 10m won’t be possible with the other guys on this team currently with bigger contracts and a guy like Fox already winning the Norris that will deserve Makar’s contract more than Makar actually does.
  6. The Blues are one of the older/more experienced teams in the league I believe and are not exactly rebuilding. If he was so vital to their cup run, surely they keep him on a team that isn’t in full rebuild and on the older side looking for a second cup. I think we are getting a bit out of hand with his cup contributions. He played some role but he wasn’t a vital cog. Hell, 3 games in the finals against the Bruins he played 6-8 minutes. I get we want to project to make this trade seem better but I just believe we mismanaged this one and lost this trade. It is what it is. If we use this extra cap space and package a guy like a Strome (even though I like him) for an upgrade then this makes sense but I don’t see how we do that with the upcoming cap in future years. In a standalone trade, Buch not netting more futures is a fail to me.
  7. Right. Kakko earned that regardless of Buch and losing Blackwell likely elevated Kaapo even if Artemi didn’t want him on his line. Kravtsov had a good handful of games here but new coach, new system, new year, etc doesn’t automatically mean he is going to be successful and we were looking specifically to take the step into playoffs next year and take strides forward, not sideways. Look, I’m not saying this is the end all be all trade but I still don’t think this specifically was a needle moving move or an offer that was just too good to pass up. This same type of deal at worst likely would have been available all season.
  8. Well, I don’t agree with that. I’m not saying Buch was an elite player but I’m not so sure he isn’t worth more. There also was no rush. At worst, he goes to arb on a one year deal and this gets revisited during the trade deadline. They have the cap this year. Trade deadline he likely brings more. At worst he brings the same. Blais isn’t some must have piece. He’s got a history of injuries and is a middling NHLer we are valuing more because we want effective grit after trading ineffective grit in Lemieux that was as effective as Blais. Does that stunt the growth of say, Kravtsov? Possibly. That was something that should have been talked about last deadline though, not this offseason since a team likely overpays a bit more making a cup run than now.
  9. We’ll see, some of us think we did sell for low. I’m not sure what the confusion is or all the emoji things are or what your problem is. I think Buchnevich was worth more even at his inflated stats than a role player and a 2nd.
  10. LOL no it's not. It's getting thr best return on your asset. If yiu sell a stock high, it's giving you the most money back. You don't sell high for pennies on the dollar
  11. I mean Brashear worked out so well later in life here so why not?
  12. What is he going to say? I get his reasons. That still doesn’t make the return any better though.
  13. Doesn’t selling high indicate you got a high return for an asset that might have an inflated value and will never be better? The return we got isn’t high at all. If a 1st were involved then we basically were talking about the Kevin Hayes trade which I’d then agree we sold high.
  14. I feel like Calgary is a good fit for him. Them Albertans are good lol boys, plus he’d be fun when the rodeo is in town
  15. Fake news! Thank god this is over. I look forward to only discussing this in Around the NHL (or KHL lol) section
  16. Sure they would. If they weren’t signing him they’d still trade him. It was about to happen with Kreider before deciding to resign him instead. It absolutely happens in the NHL. And if it were a rental like MSL I’d be fine with that too if it helped us in the playoffs like Marty did. Currently they traded for an oft injured bottom 6 guy that is rfa next year too and a 2nd rounder in 22. That isn’t exactly a return you couldn’t walk away from. Put it this way. Last year they traded Brendan Lemieux for a 4th rounder. This year they traded Buchnevich to obtain Brendan Lemieux under another name back and a 2nd rounder. That’s about as weak of a return as you can get. I’m sort of giving Drury a pass but it’s not like Drury wasn’t here last year as assistant GM, so I imagine he was part of talks as well last year. Just an example of poor management. Hopefully it’s not a trend.
  17. That’s fair but the sold high part is just not true in my opinion. Even if they paid him in his one year arb deal, they likely get more in futures at the trade deadline. The return was very mediocre.
  18. I don’t think that’s too bad money wise. Third NHL contract. Maybe a tad high but I’d love it if Fox waited til 26 for that money lol
  19. I just think that even if Buch got 6+ or so in a one year arb, we still had the cap room to make him fit this year and have all year to revisit this. Time will tell and this keeps a bit more room if they feel they want to spend it I guess but not likely with the other guys up for a contract next offseason. The other side I don’t like about this is him being rfa next year and ufa the following year. With the contracts coming up, the Rangers have to almost hope he doesn’t actually do anything above what he’s already displayed. There isn’t much wiggle room if he actually turned into something especially at his position on our roster. I suppose you could say this about anyone on our team but at wing it’s even more of a problem.
  20. It’s certainly fair to call this underwhelming. Buch did have a fantastic year last year. He had the same point total as Point, Pastrnak, more than Wheeler, Palat, Barzal, etc. Who knows. I get the money aspect of it, but I do think it might have been better to go through arbitration first if the return was this. So,etching tells me this return was still similar even if Buch was offered a tad higher than his worth.
  21. I’d assume they were worried more about the Bruins, Nashville, Oilers, and possibly Wild that all have some question marks at G and were in the market
  22. Drury opening mail with the camera on him? Lol
