so wait, Henriks contract wasn't bought out after being forced into a 3 goalie rotation where he would often 10+ days without playing and he signed with another team and Staal wasnt traded for a bag of puck and still is playing elsewhere? I'm not blaming what happened but lets call a spade a spade. They were forced out of town. Nothing on their own about it. ALF and Kakko are not the biggest problems with this team. They just are a worry because they are not performing as advertised. Even moreso with ALF. What's the use of comparing Kakko and ALF to guys like Marner and Matthews who both had 60-70 points EACH in their rookie seasons. Same thing for MacKinnon. Maybe Rantanen who had 30+ points and exploded second year for 80+? Think Kakko is there? Kakko could get 60 points in 3 years combined at this rate. So none of that above really holds water in my opinion . We DO have Zibanejad, Fox, Panarin, Kreider, They didnt sign Panarin to be a placeholder. He's here until after the 2025 season. They didnt extend Kreider for that either. Here the same time. They didnt bring in Trouba to just occupy a few seasons and say "Well when these guys are gone ALF and Kakko will be ready." Nonesense. It's not about exactly winning now as it is to be in positions to progress positively. Last year wasn't a fluke. They are a talented team. I'm not saying they should be competing for the cup but absolutely should be in the thick of the standings, not basement dwellers looking to finally earn the 1st overall pick instead of being gifted it.

Well, that's still on the coach to have this team playing better than what they are. What's on Gorton is two fold. First, hiring a college coach that has zero NHL experience to coach NHL players with zero to minimal experience as well. Second is not bringing in any real veterans to show the ropes. Having said that, Gorton expected some of our other guys to step up. Kreider, Ziby, Panarin, et al. Especially Kreider. Dude has been in the league for 10 years almost. Previously they had some other leaders in Staal and Henrik but they ran them out of town. This idea that it's a bunch of college kids though is overblown. They are young, but 15 of the roster players are 24+ years old. By that age, you are getting close to who you actually are as a professional. I just think this team is at a pretty big crossroads. If we end up basement dwellers all year, I don't see how Quinn keeps his job. Then you bring in someone else depending who is available and start with a new message that could take another year or two before it really sets in. That's a nightmare setback. If you do something THIS season, you wake the players up and give them the rest of this year to adjust to a new system and start next year completely fresh with new philosophy already in place. This year in my opinion was a make or break year for playoffs. You need progression. It cannot be 3 straight years of spinning wheels rollercoaster seasons and expect that to ever change in the future just by age development.

Well pp 1 I think usually ziby takes the draw thrn slides back to d. Fox is fox. Panarin hugs the board and curls into tjr slot when he has the puck, kreider makes his way to the front and backs up to between the dos if it goes behind the net and Strome.... Well I dont know what he does. Let strome go to pp2, move a guy like ALF or hey.... Go back to a normal, two pick moving d even though ADA doesn't actually deserve it . Hell give Kandre a chance. Pp really isn't our biggest issue but it is one of the easiest ways to get some guys going.

All very fair. Kreider does something stupid at least once a game with impunity. Strome has disappeared all year and still thrown out there on pp1. For what only Quinn knows. Certainly isn't for what he's doing on the ice.

But isn't that what, coaching is? To have answers when things aren't going well and reinforce them when they are enough so that things never get to the point where a 4 game winning steak is followed up by a 7 game losing streak. To help get the players to play to their potential, out thrm I n situations where they succeed, have a philosophy that compliments your teams strengths, etc.

Pretty spot on. You can look back on the two previous Quinn rating threads we had and see the gripes about Quinn are exactly the same today as they were in his first year. That's pretty alarming to me. Where is the growth of both him and this team? Look, it was noble to try and build everything from the ground up in terms of coaching as well as players but some groups need someone to look towards for answers. We don't have that dominant captain like player for answers thsgs been there, done that which is fine. But then you better have a coach that has some answers. Quinn just looks like he's out of ideas half the time and throws darts at a board to see what to try next.

Boyle wound be a start but man I man we are so pitiful everywhere.

There are a few bad decisions by Gorton but thro not super recent one is bury him is for the contract he have Trouba knowing he wanted specifically to be here. He's also, been very fortunate that, pane of his"acquisitions" fell in his lap. He doesnt coach the team though. He can only give the pieces.

The only identity we have as a team is that, we have no identity and have no clue what team will show up for each game. Same as its been for the last couple. Of years, free agents, emerging stars, top flight picks, guys demanding trades here..... Doesn't seem to matter. The only common denomination...... Quinn.
