I think the organization has to decide if they plan on offering him a contract past this one since he’s hinted he wants to play still. If the answer is no, then there is zero reason not to buy him out, for both sides sake.

Do u want to explain what is wrong with Clifford and or Boyle? Boyle has made a living of being a very good 4th liner including this season, has been here before, and fills a bunch of needs for cheap with leadership and experience. Clifford is a two time cup winner that’s big, hits hard, and is only 29.

I?d look into a team like the red wings still needing a ton of pieces and see if they are willing to take a Brendan Smith. Obviously they won?t want him but adding in a Georgiev to make it more tolerable for them. Get a 2nd in return. Or in a dream scenario try to poach a Kerfoot from cap strapped Toronto and say goodbye to Strome in a 3 team trade
