Laf annoys me because he looks so bad out there, but people wanting to get rid of Kakko are nuts. He was the best defensive forward in hockey last year at 19 years old and paced 15 goals over a full season. He's gonna get better. If a guy plays that well in his own end and in the neutral zone and scores 20 you take that all day long. If a guy did that as a 27 year old an hit the open market we'd be talking about a $5-6 mil per year contract. If you're only acceptable expectation is some game breaking 40 goal scorer then he may not become that, but that doesn't mean you get rid of a guy who is a high quality piece for a contending team.

Saved 27 of 28 shots. .944 sv% in his last 5 starts. He's 8-1. He seems legit. We may have a good backup goalie someday.

Laf could be a pretty good player if he ever gets in shape. Right now he's slow and perpetually tired on the ice.

He's a shooter, needs a playmaking winger. He played well a couple games ago where he scored and his line put up both goals. Now his line mates are about to be Blais and Goodrow. How's that gonna work. Preseason may not count, but his skills looked pretty good in the last game when he scored a hat trick. If he had a winger the style of Zuc or somebody similar I think his numbers would look a lot better. I still see plenty of talent and don't want to trade him and end up being Ottawa in another version of the Zibanejad trade.

Lol yeah all of our lines just do what they want and "play physical" and our D just has to play good defense and not make bad jumps. That's literally the entire philosophy. That's it. It's a pickup game and as the players put it "way less thinking", but also no system. It was lightning in a bottle in Vegas because the players worked well doing their own thing. Here so far it looks like a bit of mess. They'll either figure it out on their own or they won't.

Laf seems to be having trouble making much of an impact with a belly full of donuts.
