Everyone has been looking at deadline moves in a bubble, as if we will be the only team selling. Take a look at the bottom three teams in the West, Chicago, St. Louis and LA. Three profound underachievers with rosters chock full of mature very big names. Sure many have no-trades, but many don't want to be part of a rebuild . The point is, we cannot expect premium return for our modest trade bait when contenders may already have shot their wads with the kind of stuff Chic-StL-LA may be offering.

Those teams have multiple “franchise” players, and could see a quick rebound, unlike the Rangers squad. These teamsare trading off underachievers and/or bad contracts, most likely for change of scenery players that can have a more immediate impact. Not only will most of their trading partners be in the east, but they also won’t be targeting the same returns as the Rangers, who will be negotiating with contenders willing to give up picks/prospects that are still developing.
