Keirik
Multiple sources told The Point on Friday that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to head to Nassau Coliseum Saturday afternoon before the New York Islanders? 1 p.m. home game against the Boston Bruins. But he won?t be there just to watch a hockey game. Instead, Cuomo is expected to come to the arena to announce before the game that the Islanders will play any playoff games this year and next year, along with their entire home schedule for the 2020-2021 season, at the Coliseum https://www.newsday.com/opinion/columnists/randi-f-marshall/cuomo-islanders-coliseum-2020-2021-season-1.42300865

GordonGecko
This has been the most confusing thing to me, is Cuomo some sort of massive Islanders fan or something? He's been a total homer cheerleader for them for several years now.
paddynyc
Doesn't this have to be approved by the league ?

Sod16
How much money have the Islanders owners been losing? They got out of Barclay's because their guarantee was not what had been reported and attendance, especially in suites, was bad. They are destined for yet another year in an arena that seats less than 14,000 and has minimal suites. They had to make a huge unexpected investment in a new arena. What a monumental bust. After a few years, the Belmont arena will not be working out that well either. The center of gravity for Islanders' customers, younger white consumers, has been moving west, out to Suffolk, for years, yet the Islannders are moving 10 miles east, to a poorer, less white, less hockey oriented area. You can build suites, but will they come? I doubt Manhattan businesses will buy them, and there may not be enough giant players in Nassau to fill them. Aside from a few years during the dynasty, the Islanders were never a consistent sell out, and that's the way its going to continue.

The funniest part about this is that the Islanders would be in such better shape if Nassau politicians wouldn't have rejected Wang's project that he was going to pay for himself. The funniest part about this is that the Islanders would be in such better shape if Nassau politicians wouldn't have rejected Wang's project that he was going to pay for himself.Wang's idea was to put a state of the art arena right next to the Coliseum and would have picked up the cost himself. Made too much sense, I guess? At a loss how the Belmont arena works. On a weeknight with the Belt/Cross Island, LIE and Grand Central all right there, will be a pain in the ass to get to in a car. The LIRR spur isn't so great either. James Dolan is an investor in this , which is odd. There has been noise for years about expanding Penn Station such MSG would be torn down. May be he views it as a possible escape hatch, really speculation. Don't think the Garden is going anywhere, but a good way for NYC politicians to get what they want by poking Dolan. I understand the Barclays layout was horrible for hockey. But at the same time both the Isles and their fanbase rather than embrace it whined like bitches. There's nothing wrong with the location, right on top of a transit hub, mess of good bars and restaurants nearby.

That area is just way too busy with traffic at the times leading up to a 7pm game. I think they have an LIRR line planned where you have to get off at Jamaica and then double back east to Belmont similar to Citi Field with Woodside. Looking at an LIRR map it looks to be close to the same distance as Woodside and Citi so it shouldn't be too bad. Definitely better than Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal. Trains are going to be PACKED on nights where both teams play at home.

Place is hard to get to, you're not going to find 18,000 to go there every night and it's going to be impossible to sell out the suites at any sort of high roller corporate level
