Gravesy
Zibanejad will be back. Fast won’t. And the Rangers have to find a way to make that second line with Hart Trophy finalist Artemi Panarin and newly-re-signed center Ryan Strome somehow work. It’ll be a big ask for either of Panarin or Strome to be as good as they were last season. It’s a virtual must, though, that that line is productive – and responsible. Which brings us to 19-year-old Kaapo Kakko, coming off a rookie season that was difficult at times and promising at others. Kakko is getting the first crack at playing in Fast’s spot on the right wing with Panarin and Strome, and through two days, he’s been good. Kakko has – and he always has done the dirty work behind the icing line and around the crease – retrieved pucks and found his way to the front of the net. With his puck skills, and playing with those two veterans, he ought to benefit offensively from doing those things. When you watch these training camps, your eye tends to be trained on the unknowns more than the known. So while Panarin, Kreider, Jacob Trouba, Tony DeAngelo and many others go unnoticed, others stand out. Among those who have done so, in my humble opinion so far: Rookie defensemen K’Andre Miller, Matthew Robertson and Tarmo Reunanen, who can play either side. … Libor Hajek, in an important camp in his career, showed a lot of flashes Tuesday, including a couple of puck-transporting trips into the offensive zone. … Miller just looks like an NHL player so far, and a big one. Fits right in. … Chytil has looked very solid between Lafreniere, who settled down with fewer nerves and was better Tuesday than Monday, and Julien Gauthier. Brett Howden and Morgan Barron and skated the first two days in Zibanejad’s spot and did fine. Barron looks NHL ready body-wise and is a strong skater with some skill. He and Howden figure to battle for bottom-six minutes, too. https://theathletic.com/2304843/2021/01/05/kaapo-kakko-artemi-panarin-new-york-rangers/ Man. I'm starting to feel it now. :slats:

josh
Can't Barron and Howden both make it? Doesn't Barron play wing? Yes, he played wing in college. They can both make it, but the bottom 6 needs some... balls.

Sharpshooter
It's cool they're wearing their actual home and road uniforms instead of just different colored practice jersies. I can't wait for next week!
Flynn
At this point I'm assuming Miller would have to go out of his way not to be on that 3rd pair against the Islanders.

josh
So did Columbus, Pittsburgh, Oilers, Flames, Blackhawks, etc from quick view. It's probably to get an advantage over opponents. 56-game season, no preseason, all playing the same 7 teams. Not letting opponents scout you prior to playing you could have difference in the first month (longer than normal because the team isnt adjusting as much only playing specific teams). It's going to be a long time before you figure out tendencies (watching them play against teams other than your own)
Long live the King
Laf-Chytil-Gauthier line has been together in every scrimmage lineup I've seen throughout camp. You gotta think that line is working and they are letting them continue to build chemistry? If it was junk they'd move them around and try to find other combos that work. Is it Thursday yet??? There’s hasn’t been much praise for that line from those watching the streams. All the top 3 lines have been together throughout camp so far. (Get gauthier off that line and put a lefty there!)
