Pete
$6.5 won't be fair value any longer if he actually spends a season playing on a line with Barclay Goodrow and Will Cuyle. I'm critiquing everything he's done so far, I simply don't like his protection list. Our bottom 6 center right now are Goodrow and Rooney who combined for 34 points last year. We had better have the best PP in the league if we are going to keep up offensively. What's the issue with who was exposed vs protected? Also Rooney paced 21 points last year. Goodrow paced 30. Paying $4M for a 30 point player is a slight overpayment, something you can do when for the first 2-3 years of that deal you will have a ton of young position players on ELCs. Pete
Near 4m, he’s gotta put up more points, regardless of the other things he bringsIf he's 3rd line C next year, this could be a comparable, depending on the RW... VEGAS Janmark: 24 points Roy: 25 points Tuch: 33 points RANGERS Kreider: 30 points last season, missed games but let's say it's adjusted for less ice time, against lesser opponents, still PP time. Goodrow: 20 points RIGHT WING: I'm sure Kakko, Krav or even Blackwell (22 in 47) can get you those points between them or from one of them. Production will not be the issue, the cap will be. I'm not worried about the $1M overpayment, today. As always the devil is in the details. Are we giving him the trade protection? I say if you give him that kind of term and money, then fuck no. Dunny
I just hope he's as hungry as he was before he got paid. He's won B2B cups, and is going to get a deal he would have never imagined only a year ago. It's gotta take a special person to not coast, even a little bit, and if this guy coasts he's an AHL'er. Agreed. But this is also what I was talking about with him earning his money in the playoffs where he can drag the team into the fight. Another long playoff-less regular season is gonna feel like an eternity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I don't think there's many players who are coasting in the NHL. I think the reverse happens where a player signs for a bigger contract and put so much pressure on themselves they can never perform. See: Skjei. It's up to Gallant to empower this guy (as well as the rest of the team) and put him in the best place to succeed.

Goodrow was pacing 30-pts/82 games. I still think that's weak... but it's also more than why Chytil has put up... so, if he's around the 30pt mark, just make sure some of those are big goals. ha Still dont like him at C, but not a lot of options. josh
I'd also add - the size needs to be spread out. The best thing about playing with big dudes is how much attention they get on the ice - opening up space for the skilled guys.

Drew a Penalty
It seems like Drury is confusing Goodrow with Coleman. Had he paid over $4M, sure. If it's in the $3.6M ballpark then it's about right for Goodrow.

Flynn
1. Goodrow brings much to the table. He's hardly duplicative of anything currently on the roster. He's a need, and needs cost.. Needs via UFA cost more. 2. 3.6 is a nice chunk of change.. But it's not a sum that will handcuff Drury as he works the rest of the roster. This isn't a David Clarkson deal. 3. If I'm a betting man, its a front loaded deal that makes the back end real money much more movable over the last couple years of the deal. 4. Last, but definitely not least... This flat cap isn't going to be here forever. Everyone take a breath.

josh
Chytil paced 43 pts per 82 this year. Their point totals were about the same, with one adding a lot more that the team is missing. Love Chytil, but he's a one trick pony. And this team already has a bunch of stallions. Plus, Goodrow's career high in points is higher than Chytil's. Keirik
If it’s in the 3.6m aav I’m fine with it. If it’s overpayment, it’s by a few hundred thousand, not millions so I’m fine. I still hope they get one more tough body and or faceoff specialist like a Glendening. Personally I think Blackwell is good as gone to Seattle and I’m okay with that. He was a nice find but he won’t be here past next year regardless when his contract is up. I’m looking for guys to be here long term and solidify our future. Goodrow is here to stay and I’m A ok. Best guess, Goodrow had reportedly shared interest signing with the Rangers per Seravalli, I think. Not sure Gourde did the same. Gourde also costs $5 million. Gourde also costs $5 million. Gourde is under contract and exposed in the expansion draft. He's almost certainly being selected by Seattle. Gourde at $5million is a better deal and a way better player. He also is an actual center and produces average 20 goals 50plus points https://www.nhl.com/player/yanni-gourde-8476826
