I don't know if we WANT super long term. He didn't look too hot this past season. Are any teams locking up goalies for more than 5 years these days? Is anyone else not as high on him as we were last season pre car crash?

I'm not a huge proponent of signing goalies long-term either. Five years would be solid. Six is fine.

The risk is he starts to suck and he's unmoveable with a high-paying, long contract. The sample size of games is small, but based on his performance in Russia, the AHL, and the NHL, his performance is less of a worry and his ability to stay healthy is the main concern.

That's more of my point. You will be retooling after losing some really significant parts in 6 years. And if all these kids pan out, there will be a massive cap issue by then. Just say all the kid defenders are "legit", can't pay for everyone.

Yup. There's a clear "hand the baton" feeling to the middle of the 2020s when the NMCs on Trouba and Kreider expire and Panarin's contract is up and the kids are starting to hit the mid 20s.
