Seriously, if they are playing .500 (real, not NHL .500) half way through the season, Eichel is going to regret not being there. Is the blood too bad for the Sabres to let him have his surgery and come back? On the other hand, perhaps this will be a Taveras situation, where losing their best player was the best thing that ever happened to the Islanders, who wouldn't have been able to compile the roster they have now if they had Taveras's contract. I'm sure the Isle would gladly replace Nelson ($6M) and Varlamov ($5M) with Tavares ($11M). The Isles were 21st in GF last year. Lack of offense is what's preventing them from getting over the hump.
