This is the crux though.

If you get that the backup needs to play, then it doesn't matter who the backup is. This is a game you'd give a backup no matter who it is. Sunday night, people from Buffalo spent the weekend in NYC after football...this is the exact throwaway game you give to a backup.

If the logic is don't play Geo if you don't think he can win, you'd never play him LOL.

It does though. Because if you trust the backup, the backup plays more.

When we had Valiquette, Lundqvist played more because Renney/Torts didn’t have the trust in Vally.

Once Biron came and there was more trust, Henrik starts per year somehow shrunk.

That had to do with the level of trust you have in the quality of backup you have.

I have been saying all year that this was an issue, and should have been figured out in the summer.

Don’t necessarily agree with this. A veteran that’s been around and understands the role would be better. I don’t think Kinkaid is anything special but he’s certainly calmer back there and definitely seems to be a better option than Geo.

The stats put them neck and neck.

I'm not talking about amount I'm talking about frequency. Either way where we are in the schedule this is a game a backup who's been sitting a week should have started.

Our backup wasn't sitting a week due to lack of confidence, the starter started all the games he should have started.

If I had to guess, the only reason Georgiev played today was that it was supposed to be game two of a back to back and Gallant said a while ago what game Geo was getting.

Maybe, sure. I'm not defending Geo because he's terrible, I'm just saying it's not like there's no logic behind why he was playing tonight or that he shouldn't have been.

If we took names out of the equation, this is a game a backup was getting.

this game was a lot less close than tinordi and georgiev let it seem, lots of really good stuff going on. Third line played huge, again, kakko with a fantastic finish, game winner was great.

But you have to credit gallant with this one. He made the change with hunt and georgiev to send a message that there are no nights off, and the message was received. Team dominated the third and shouldn’t have needed a game winner in the last second but hey, that’s what we got.

I want everyone to ask themselves, does Quinn make the same move last year?

Been saying it all year that there is something different about this team, and tonight the difference was the coach. Can’t remember last time I thought that

It makes sense in theory but yeah, I think when that Ottawa game gets cancelled you roll with your rested starter regardless of the opponent.

It's not about your #1 being rested, it's about keeping your #2 from being on the bench for a month.

The Sabres being at .500 almost 1/4 off the way into the season is kinda surprising. Hopefully our boys aren’t looking past them. Big W today. 5-1 Rangers.

Nailed it after applying the Geo bell curve.

We're back yet again, folks!!!  Cheers to our warrior defenseman for beating the buzzer and making me jump up & down like a 3 year old at Christmas!

........And here are the Top 10 nominees for last night's “Ozzy Quote of the GDT”, sponsored by The NY State Bridge and Tunnel authority: The new home of our future former back-up goalie!

Sasha Grey gave up porn because her holes took too much abuse. We can only hope Georgiev has the same level of self  preservation in mind.

Some really funny ones to pick from last night!  ….and the winning quote for tonight’s GDT goes to @Flynn!!!  That one just tops the charts tonight!!!
