I don't want to say it was a soft goal necessarily, but it definitely felt like the air left the balloon after that odd, kind of fluky Svechnikov goal. It was too bad because the Rangers were right there with them, even outplaying them until around the half way point of the second point. Hopefully they can regroup and pound Philadelphia who I expect will be grumpy coming off a shelling at the hands of Washington.

I think most times when the puck goes on from behind the net, it's soft. He overcommitted and didn't seal the post.

He's earned enough to make a mistake though. This was a winnable game. They blew 2 easy goals.

That said it's really hard to come out of a game like this with any judgements because Carolina has probably the most complete roster in the NHL, top to bottom. Our top 6 will probably match anyone's top 6 but it's the depth that's a real glaring hole (again).

I'm starting to agree with @josh about needing to spread this shit out. The Strome line isn't any better with Copp on it, it's really kinda the same. They need to lengthen the forward group, especially with Motte out.

CK50 Zib Frankie V

Panarin Strome Lafreniere

Goodrow Copp Kakko

Hunt Rooney Reavo

Gotta get Krappo away from Lafable and put them both with linemates who don't need them.

Got off to a pretty good start last night and then it seemed the 'Canes found their pesky ways midway through the 2nd.

Fuck it!  Let's just go with "CK 5 OH"!

........And here are the Top 10 nominees for last night's “Ozzy Quote of the GDT”, sponsored by Viagra: "When you need to keep it going for 60 minutes."

Rangers should start doing tributes to ex players that are like "THANK YOU, JESPER!" and then the video changes immediately and is like "SIKE! GFY."

I was watching tonight, and I was also watching 50 years ago when Hadfield scored his 50th.  Does that make me old?  Rodrigue Gabriel, help me out.

Ah well, lessons to be learned from this one, but one thing's for sure;  That K' Andre Miller fella is taking to it somthin' fierce.  Slavin's jock is still hanging from the crossbar!

….and the winning quote for tonight’s GDT goes to @VegasRanger, who successfully identified the "Mystery Guest"!

Perfect example why there's no such thing as a bad shot on goal. But NYR in that situation will ALWAYS try to thread the needle with a pass that accomplishes nothing and will likely be defensed.

Indeed. This is a really good team that's been fun to watch, but they're going to have to change their mentality if they want to do any damage in the playoffs ever. I know we're talking about who the better matchups would be for this team, but truthfully if they don't start shooting and going to the net, they won't beat anybody. I don't care how they did against Pittsburgh or Tampa Bay during the regular season. The playoffs is a new season and basically a different type of hockey, one this team has not been accustomed to playing. Their play style most of the year has been the antithesis of what it takes to win in the postseason. I really don't know if that switch is magically going to get pressed over night or what.

If you can grind out the Rangers, you will probably win. It's that simple. They've had trouble against Carolina, trouble against Colorado and Calgary, and even Seattle, who was a buzzsaw of grind it out type of gameplay that gave them fits.

I really think the bold is the important thing. I do not think we could have said that for the other games we played against Carolina (even though we did win one).

Thinking about this game and the other games vs. the Canes this year.  Canes are an extremely aggressive team, expend a lot of energy on a nightly basis.  We know the playoffs are a grind.  If we have to face the Canes in the playoffs, let Boston or Tampa grind them down, hopefully for 7 games, and then we jump on them in the 2nd round and grind them some more.  Which means we have to stay in that 2/3 spot in the division.  Canes would probably win in 4-5 vs. the Pens, and the Rangers would probably have a touch series vs an experienced TBL or have to really grind vs Boston.  IMO I dont think the Canes can keep up this style of play for an extended period of time in the playoffs, especially this season with so many good Eastern Conference teams.

Yup.  They have to extend their lineup to three lines that can be a threat.  Zib,Kreider, Laf showed chemistry.  Kakko with Panarina and Strome has worked before.  Copp,Goodie,Vatrano would make for three lines that can produce.  I have more confidence in the third line than I do in the Strome line come playoff time.

I don't know if Kakko is ready for that, he's still way off in timing from coming back, maybe try Laffy with Panarin and Strome.

Gonna throw a little fun grenade in here...

The Rangers won (or held serve, I guess) the analytics battle yesterday against the analytics darlings of the NHL. Andersen did better against high danger chances than Shesterkin did.
