Maybe to try to get the guys to play?

renney and torts would randomly go with a backup to try to get the boys to move

I guess that’s a possibility but you’d think a team with all these “leaders” wouldn’t need that so early in the year.

Yeah the Rangers found a formula for success that worked for them in the playoffs. The thing is that formula was backed up by intensity and desperation. Both of which are obviously lacking at this early stage of the regular season, and that's fine you don't expect the same level of fire as in the playoffs. The problem is that formula has been scouted by several teams now and they've employed methods to neutralize it. And as you said, the Rangers are walking into games thinking all they need to do is rinse and repeat that formula and the goals will come. Since that obviously hasn't happened, they've started to lose confidence to deviate from that. There's little to no creativity or adaptability in their game right now.

Their formula in the playoffs was playing against third string goalies and injuring Crosby.  The Rangers success in the playoffs would have been zero if Crosby doesn't go down, even with Louie Domingue in net.  I really fear this front office let that success mask obvious flaws to this team.  Mainly they are not good defensively and they do not go into traffic to find second chance opportunities.  I do think the forecheck looks better but this team is comprised of way to much of the same.  Casual d zone coverage and a desire to play pond hockey will not get it done for four rounds in the Spring.

This team is obviously better than what they have been the past week or so but not as good as they were touted to be coming into the season.  It's easy to say they are a contender because they went to the Conference finals last year.  Reality is this team got so fortunate with Crosby getting hurt when they had no answer for him and getting Domingue and Ranta the first two rounds.  Even then they made both those sieves look pretty good.

Every team, with the cap, is going to have weak points. But what also that means is your stars have to be your best players every night, and the rest of the team does okay rather than hurt you. Right now, the stars are not doing the job. That has to change.

This weekend is surprisingly big in the sense while you cannot lose the Cup in the first few months of th season, you can fall out of the playoffs(witness Islanders last season). This is going to be a competitive division, and pissing away points vs. the CBJ, Sharks and Isles is gonna cost you in seeding. And, perhaps, getting into the playoffs at all.

The panic button isn't pressed but the safety is off.

Hard to dispute any of the above...

@cupalife - Welcome aboard man!!  Great crew here...probably the best group of knowledgeable Rangers fans you're gonna find anyplace.

and @Bugg....Our boy looks good...just gotta start burying 'em!  I think he's gonna have a great year this year, once he gets a little momentum going!

Sky is falling.

Tear it all down. Start over. Trade Shesterkin. Trade Zibanejad.  Fire Gallant.  Trouba is the worst captain ever. Panarin is overpaid.  Cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria.

Not saying that. But let's see where this team in mid November.
