William Nylander Trade Destinations: 7 Teams That Could (or Should) Be Interested

Panarin was the outlier salary when Zibanejad signed his second deal with the Rangers.  If Kreider had been making $10M+ and Fox had been making 10M+ there's a pretty good chance that Zibanejad's asking price would have been higher.

When Panarin was a UFA, he was going on 28 and his career high in goals and points were 31 and 87. He got 7 x 11.6 with a full NMC on a salary cap that was far lower than what next year’s will be. He reportedly took a small discount to go to the Rangers instead of CBJ or NYI.

Nylander will be 28 and currently has a career high in goals and points at 40 and 87. He’s as high a quality an impending UFA as Panarin. When you evaluate from this angle, 10 actually might be low with the salary cap boosting up to 87-88m next year. Especially if he posts another 40ish 90ish season.

The league-wide cap situation allowed for a bidding war for Panarin.  Not the situation now for Nylander.

It’s working against all of them, which is why they’re all taking one year deals.

It doesn’t help that it’s such a shit FA class this year.

Nylander is probably best served to just ride it out this year, be it in Toronto, or elsewhere, and go to market next summer.

There's no cap situation next summer. The cap is projected to reach 92 million in 2 summers.

Nylander will walk right to UFA and cash in big time.

It makes little sense to bring in any high-priced free agent unless they are going to reset your culture in the process.

Adam Graves made sense because he was joining Mark Messier in an attempt by the Rangers to reset a culture that kept under-achieving in the regular season and then flopping in the playoffs.

He was brought in as part of an effort to make the roster tougher and grittier up top.  Much like this Rangers team the top 9 were not tough enough and so the Messier trade and the Graves signing were aimed at changing the mix.

Can’t see the reason to bring in a guy like Nylander.

Not saying he isn’t a great player or super productive. He certainly is.

You’d have to move out someone else of similar ilk and either create a hole or have it be a somewhat of a lateral move.

In his case, if he’s just looking for the biggest bag possible, he’s totally best served by staying put for another year, playing with those guys and continuing to put up huge numbers, and doing so without signing an extension.

Then he can go on the open market next summer.

House of hockey has a trade proposal of Nylander, Murray & a #1 for Saros.

What's House of hockey? What an absolutely mind-boggling proposal... Who on God's green earth would give up that much to get a goalie?

A team with all the talent in the world that can't win in the playoffs because they don't have a goalie that can get hot and carry them now and then.

Shhhhh they will hear you across the river. Be cool, ill handle this.

Hey Devs, yea you are good with the goalies you have already. Dont make any moves. Ride them out a good 8-10 years.

The Leafs are crazy enough to do it.
Houseofhockey.net is some site I stumbled across that makes rumors up.   Some of them are absurd but some are interesting.

Fair. Would be a wild overpayment at the position, though.

The Ranger nightmare would be the Devils sniping Shesty in free agency in a few years.  Not even necessarily from the Rangers but from the team we traded him too.
