It goes to show that offer sheets are virtually taboo among GMs.  Pay LaF $4m as a "tryout" for a year and give up a 2d round pick.  There should be loads of teams jumping on that.

1 yr $4M is prob not enough to get Laf to sign an offer sheet anyway. He’d probably be looking for more term. 3 years, maybe 4 to take him right to UFA.

No one thinks he's worth 4M +2nd Rounder. Says a lot.

Yes it does. There was an article around trade deadline time that pretty much said the market was dead for his services. Prolly had to do with the chin strap mustache.

What team that he would want to sign with does even have the cap space?

Chicago and Detroit have cap space and are attractive teams in terms of franchise history and opportunity. I think both would be just fine losing a 2nd. The 1st and 3rd gets dicey because these are probably lottery teams and the 1st has to be unprotected.

As for one of these teams shooting their shot on a 1 yr 4.2 offer that costs a 2nd round pick, it's a weak one that the Rangers would match. It gives the offering team nothing except a target on the back. It's just not realistic. It'd have to be more in line with the Kotkaniemi 1 yr $6.1M to get Lafreniere. In which case, the Rangers probably take the unprotected and likely lottery 1st.
