Pronman: New York Rangers Rank No. 15 in NHL Pipeline Rankings for 2023

Maroon is in no way comparable to Lafreniere.

People just don't understand what it means to get NHL exposure at 19,20,21.

Maroon was 23 his first season in the NHL.  He was 25 the first season he played more than 13 games.

If you don't think about what early exposure means in terms of where you will be in the prime of your career it is easy just to look at numbers for comparisons but those are among the least valid indicators of what the future portends when you are comparing 19 and 23 year old rookies.

The guy Lafreniere is kind of comparable to is Zibanejad.  Not wholly so but similar disappointment profiles early on.  The Senators did give Zibanejad more opportunities than Lafreniere has had so far but they were a much worse team and had no choice.

Lafreniere had 19 even strength goals at the age of 20 in 21-22.  Zibanejad did not score that many even strength goals in a season until he was 26.

He's  Benoit Pouliot.

Won't get it together. Moves around the league somewhat faltering,  only to put it half way together on another "show me" contract with some middling team and turning THAT into a payday from some desperate team looking for ok production.  Then fades into obscurity.

Laugh's career might be closer to Guillaume Latendresse.

This is just a laughable take.

There’s a line between legitimate deserved criticism, and hyperbole. You’ve blown past that line doing 120 mph here.

Odd comment coming from you.

Latendresse was actually a decent player before the concussions.

And that's all he ever was, decent. Not a first overall, however highly touted as the second coming of whomever, never panned out that way.

Is that too high of a goal? It's year 4. Still waiting for any kind of remarkable play from this guy. The consensus is- he's a good 3rd liner.

For a team that has struggled to score at even strength, I don't think his goal totals there should be understated. People may say it was only taking advantage of plays made by others, but still.

As of now, that is correct. Cause that’s all he’s shown himself to be thus far.

The matter for debate is whether or not there’s more there, and if so, how much.
