Othmann has played well enough so far to make this team. I'm not saying he will, or that he should, but he's right there.

He should. At least for the beginning of the season. He has earned it and deserves the shot. I want him in the AHL but pre season is pointless if a showing like his isn't rewarded at least with a cup of coffee up here.

Laff has played himself into a real discussion about whether he should be in Hartford. But draft status and all that.

If Quick didn't have a resume, Garrand is the backup goalie. May happen during the season anyway.

Why shouldn't Lafreniere go to Hartford if it looks like that's the best way to light a fire under his ass?

Either he plays well enough down there against AHL players to get promoted or the Rangers wind up saving a lot of time figuring things out.

He'd have to clear waivers.  He's not going to Hartford.

He has to pass waivers.

It might not be who they want to be, but it's who they are, Mr. Laviolette. Good luck.

I was just going to post that what happened against the Devils in the playoffs last year was not an accident and it was not injuries and it was not about the best players not being supported by everybody else.

What happened against the Devils last year looked a lot like what happened against the playoff bound teams during the regular season.  The Rangers lived and died on the power play in those games and that's what happened in that series also.

Right, and the guys who are paid a shit ton of money to make sure they at least perform on the man advantage, couldn't even manage to do that.

It's starting to feel like Othmann and Cuylle have a real shot at making the team.  Laviolette has to do something to send a message to the team if he thinks the effort is just not there on a shift to shift basis and both of those guys have been working hard on every shift.

Nothing is going to change if the same guys who were out there last year get a few vet reinforcements and go back out there this year.  The Rangers aren't going to get all-out efforts from their vet core unless those guys know they have to go all out or changes will be made.

It's too cushy in Ranger-land at the top of the roster.  The stars are very good but other than Zibanejad nobody goes all out on every shift.  You have to get down to the 3rd and 4th lines before you find that quality in evidence in the current group of established players.  Even then you're talking Goodrow and Vesey, not the established young forwards.

Somethings got to give.

This says it.

Belichek won Super Bowls with the mantra that the name on the back of the jersey doesn't matter. It's all about the effort and who gives the best chance to win and there are some well paid individuals that may enjoy the press box this year if this were the case.

Yea effort is an issue with this team.

it’s preseason though and I’m curious how  laviolette will respond here.

Seems like preseason matters to Lavvy.

Now that said, it shouldn't get lost on anybody that NYI played their NHL roster, and the Rangers played  half of theirs.

They also had 2 years of GG just giving no fucks about anything other than line shuffling.

Glad Lavvy is getting after it early.

Mornin Pete! I never heard a quote like that from a head coach before. Riveting. I assume he’s talking about Panarin here with a team worst -3 last night and a turnover that directly led to a goal against within 2 seconds. He’s right, we need more for $12M!
