Br4d Posted May 31 Share Posted May 31 Zibanejad has been going downhill at 5v5 for close to two years now. It's just not reasonable to suggest this is streakiness or anything like that. He's just not as good as he was 2 years ago which is unsurprising given he was 29 then and is 31 now. Whatever happens the next few weeks the Rangers need to understand that Zib is not the player that he was when this run began 3 years ago. It happens to everybody sooner or later but it is worse when it happens to a generally soft player because as they are losing reflexes and half a step they have little else to contribute or emphasize in return. Did anyone see his interview last night about how he thought we did well taking what they gave us? That’s not the mentality of a winning player IMO. It’s the playoffs. Take the game over. Fuck what they’re giving us. Be better. He had a lousy season. We waited all year for a hot streak that never came. Then it was wait for the playoffs. And we’re 10 straight games now without a goal. We can blame linemates. We can blame a lot of things. Mika is a 1C. He needs to step up and play like one. The only way you're going to get his 5v5 numbers up at this point is to give him Bread and Laf on the wings. That would boost his 5v5 assists significantly. Much like Panarin, he still must prove he can elevate his game when facing elite competition.
