Panarin and a retained Trouba to Detroit about to go down. Big dick move coming from Drury to remove the cruft from the last regime.

In return for what assets?

Cap space and roster freedom for a GM who has yet to have an opportunity to construct a team his way.

And no draft picks nor players?  Drury should ask for at least 1-2 assets in return in addition to cap space.

That is true, isn't it? He's had to work overtime to to try and get Trouba out of town, which wasn't even his massive fuck up to begin with

It wouldn't be nothing coming back, but it would be an underwhelming package on the face of it when you are talking about a 100 point player moving out. Probably something around Compher, a protected 1st, future 2nd, and one or two buyout friendly 1 year contracts (e.g., Petry, Fabbri) to offset a little more money.

Then what was his massive fuck up?

Yes, and when you think about all the mistakes Drury has made, they've been related to supplementing the core. Goodrow, Nemeth, deadline trades that ultimately haven't really worked out (Copp/Vatrano year 1 was solid, but ultimately how many assets have been dumped the last 3 years?). Is this really his dream as a GM? Spending year after year trying to make it work with Gorton/JD's decisions?

Yeah and getting Tarasenko, and yes, even Kane were good moves as well. Giving up a second rounder for Wennberg wasn't good, but I really expected him to be better. So, I can't fault Drury too much there.

If he can dump Trouba one way or another, that will be big in finally removing some of the stench. That's a big one.

They were good value. I’d agree with that. But the point is he has still invested a shit ton in trying to win with guys he never picked or signed. He has to know when to stop, or it will rightfully sink him.

I don't understand people not wanting a point per game player here, who in turn could elevate Zibanejad's game. He's already shown he is healthy and can play.

The answer is simple, for some people it's not enough that the problem gets fixed. It needs to get fixed it their way or they aren't happy.

Because their way to fix the problem is the only way to fix the problem and even if you fix the problem in other way it doesn't count because it wasn't their way.

Doesn't matter now because Kane's staying with the Red Wings.

Clearly he wasn't in it for a huge discount, that's a nice size bag he just secured. Clearly not adverse at all in playing for the Wings.  This one may fall into the not everybody wants to come here for possibly less even if it would be a redemption tour if he truly felt he had unfinished business here.
