UFA Target: Sam Reinhart or Steve Stamkos

I dont think players care about teams’ cap situations. They want to get paid what they’re worth and as much as possible or find another employer that will.

And I have no issue with that… so long as the player doesn’t care where he plays or if he has viable shots at winning.

There’s no guarantee of winning it all no matter how good a team looks on paper so I would think players care most about getting paid what they think they are worth than about winning.  That being said they aren’t going to sign with a team that has no shot either though

It literally has nothing to do with us fans.

No. It doesn’t and the player has a right to operate in whatever way he sees fit based on his own preference and priorities.

Says to me TB thinks they’re getting Guentzel. And that Stamkos is gone.

If Trouba gets dealt: Any chance we get both him and Kane for the Zibanejad line with Kreider moving to the 3rd line? Hmmm.

I hope not. What problem does it solve?

In the hypothetical world where this exists….

Stamkos-Zib-Kane

Panarin-Chytil-LaFreniere

Kreider-Trochek-????

With…

Cuylle

Vesey

Rempe

Edstrom

Othmann

Brodz

Obviously they can shuffle the lines.

Thats a good group

It feels like the star fucking that went on during the dark years.

And I get that sentiment.

But with those two… off point per game seasons, 5 Cups between them, and proven clutch, playoff scorers, it’s worth considering.

Now I’ll say it’s not tantalizing. There’s appeal and enticement.

There may be better options out there.

But you don’t know if those options are attainable.

Its intriguing.

Pat LaFontaine is my favorite player. Ever.

Top-20 all-time in goals per game and points per game. On mostly shit teams.

One of the most dynamic and explosive players ever.

And his speed coupled with his skill was in the Bure/McDavid range.

Thats how good he was.

I was depressed when the Rangers signed him off of 5 concussions and major knee surgery.

That’s not Kane and Stamkos.

Why???

I know it’s not with the narrative of bigger and tougher.

And I’m not pushing it.

Not at all in fact.

Its a purely hypothetical scenario that is super unlikely to come to pass.

Its not happening.

But it’s not a disaster.

It's not LaFontaine but it could be Fluery and Stevens and Kamensky.

To your point though… it’s not 100% ideal.

Perhaps not even that close to ideal.

And who knows who is here and who is not and how the lines are aligned and deployed and what works and what doesn’t.

But if you brought those 2 in… your skill level goes up.

The amount of proven playoff guys who score in those situations goes up… and you have options that are hard to deal with.

Florida took Kucherov away vs Tampa in the playoffs this year.

As they should. He’s the man to watch there.

But…

They didn’t take away Stamkos.

Impactful players are impactful players.

Those 2 look like they’re still that.

Don’t be surprised if they offer the captain C as part free agent pitch to #91 And the A to#88

If Stamkos were to sign for $6-7 million per year, then that could work.

I imagine it’s one of Stamkos or Kane. Not both.

I don't think they're getting either of them on a 1 year deal and that's probably what Drury is looking for, like with all the lesser signings last year.

I don’t see him going to 4 years. But I do see him willing to go to 2.

How do you sign the guys the Rangers need to sign next year if you give a big free agent 2 years on their deal?

If Drury signs Lindgren and Schneider, those signings bring down the cap space to $6-$7M. And if you were to add Stamkos or Reinhart, then Drury would have trade somebody from the core group -- Trouba, Panarin, Shesterkin, etc.
