The question may be, do the Rangers take more chances with Igor because it's Igor? How would they play in front of a "lesser" (lol) $8M goalie? I'm starting to feel like the whole "Well they need the 12M goalie" is bullshit. A lot of underlying metrics are the same for Shesterkin and Quick last regular season...Suggests you don't need superman back there.

Shesterkin right now is still better than these guys, and is going to get paid as such whether we like it or not. It's either 12-12.5 or he's gone. I'm not saying it's good or bad or whatever, that's just the reality of it. Maybe he 'settles' for 11.7.

And they're likely to be able to keep that depth because they didn't spend double digits on their goalie. $4 million goes a long fucking way when you're talking about the ability to keep star players.
