GDT [RS #7] Rangers vs. Florida Panthers — So, We Meet Again

Slow starts are beginning to look like the norm for this team.  We simply can't come out and give this team a 2 goal lead like that.  We're just asking for trouble with that shit!

Igor did his best to keep us close and give us a chance, but apparently this team refuses to lift the puck, or shoot high.  Bob turned in some great saves, and hosed us out of a few golden chances himself.  But overall I thought we played a fairly messy game.

Would anybody else appreciate not hearing from DJ Mika after games going forward? I would rather hear from the Zamboni driver.

 

Sizeable dose of humble pie tonight. Place was a morgue, rather embarrassing. Nothing to see here. Burn the tape then find the nearest cinder block wall and repeatedly slam your head against it thinking about all the years and $ tied up in old Mika.

 

Sure others didn't play well but this guy is supposed to be a leader on this team.  If nothing else he should shave his head and face and perhaps walk backwards.

Were you there, or just going by what you heard from TV? It was definitely quiet, but really it was just Florida stifling them and not giving much the fans to cheer about. They played as good a road game as you can. Match-up wise, it's still a bad one for the Rangers, though, whether Mika is going or not. They shouldn't be surprised with how Florida plays. They are like this against everybody, they just have no answers. They certainly can beat them, they're right there with him, but they need an extra gear against that group to get over.

I wouldn't even call it a clunker, honestly. I'm not saying they were great, but I think it was more just Florida putting on a clinic.

After they went down in the first, the rest of the period was super encouraging watching them try and tie the game. After the third goal, Florida locked down and said "No Soup For You!!"

Yeah, two goals behind against that team is an uphill battle. It's like playing the late 90's early 2000's Devils. Ultra lock down mode.

A clunker is going through the motions losing 3-2 to the Sharks. You know they are better than that. 

 

Getting manhandled by a team that manhandled them in the playoffs is just more of the same. We know the Rangers aren’t better than this.

Yeah, not every loss is you playing like crap, sometimes you just get beaten. The Rangers got beaten by a team with a perfect game plan.

This was a 1:1 extension of our play against them in the playoffs.

 

I don't know why we don't just reverse the puck behind the net in our zone, instead of rushing it out the wall which is always pressured by them. It doesn't move the puck out, but it alleviates the pressure and allows for a cleaner breakout, even if it's against a more structured defense.

Game was blacked out down here and I no longer have cable as no one watched it in my household so I got rid of it. Didnt see any of the game…was it bad???

 

Im not getting in any kind of twist over an October loss to another really good team… unless anything awful happened.

Rangers gave up two quick goals and that was all Florida needed. 

 

Florida shut everything down, and every time they tried to push the offense, Florida countered.

 

Bob was better than Igor, but that's not why they lost. They lost because they didn't start on time and they refused to simplify their game (again).

Not sure what's next. We know this team can pile up points vs. lesser teams with their 2 great goalies.Playoffs and may be winning the division are in the cards. But the team failed a stress test last night. Panthers hadn't played all that well and were without Barkov. 

 

But there's a serious disconnect between Mika's "we'll get'em next time" happytalk nonsense post game comments and those of Laviolette pretty much saying they didn't come anywhere near being competitive.

Tortorella did exactly what your suggesting with Courtourier last season. He didn't score a goal the rest of the season (10 games), only had two assists and the flyers dropped out of a playoff spot. 

 

Now you might call Mika soft but no one would call Courtourier soft... That shit simply doesn't work on adults. 

 

He's either in his own head and needs a shrink or he's in his own head with the party favors and needs rehab.

happy to let Mika takeover 3rd line and PP2 duties for the rest of this season and career if need be

 

this is a better team with Chytil and Laf in those spots

That approach is the same as forcing children into activities they don’t have interest in.

This team is going to need all players firing on all cylinders if they're going to do anything, so trying to bury something that could be a problem should not be the priority. The priority should be fixing the problem, however you need to do it you need to do it.

It's just possible that Mika could be more effective in a 3rd line role.
